Conference on Environment-Awareness-Enforcement New Delhi.

 

Asia Pacific Jurist Association (APJA) has been formed as a Non-Government Organization (NGO) of like minded jurists, leading Lawyers, Academicians, who, for a common cause have joint hands with the objective of promoting the interest of the Asia Pacific Region, particularly, through interactions and deliberations, resulting in recommendations, suggestions & resolutions backed by academic and intellectual impetus in the key areas of Law & Regulations. APJA in partnership with the Ministry of Environment & Forests, Govt. of India and the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board had organized a three days International Conference on “Environment-Awareness-Enforcement” on January 20-22, 2006 at New Delhi. The conference was inaugurated by His Excellency Dr.A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, President of India in the presence of distinguished Guests, including Shri H.R. Bhardwaj, Hon’ble Minister for Law, Justice & Company Affairs; Shri A. Raja, Hon’ble Minister of Environment & Forests, Govt. of India; Hon’ble Mr.Y.K.Sabharwal, Chief Justice of India, Hon’ble Mr.Vijender Jain, Justice of Hon’ble High Court, Delhi. The Souvenir was brought out to commemorate the occasion with distinguished articles on various aspects of environment protections, which was widely circulated in the Legal & Corporate Sectors. Various organizations including the industries have been provided a platform to share their opinion and create a vision as a supporting partner to the event. Maharashtra Pollution Control Board invited various industries complied with the pollution control norms to take active part in the conference and to support as a Sponsorer. The following industries from the State of Maharashtra supported the conference. 1. M/s.Reliance Industries Ltd., MIDC Indl.Area, Patalganga, Rasayani, Dist: Raigad. 2. M/s.Thermax Ltd., Patalganga Indl.Area, Rasayani, Dist: Ragiad. 3. M/s.Cipla Ltd., MIDC Indl.Area, Kurkumbh, Dist: Pune. 4. M/s.Tata Motors Ltd., Pimpri, Dist: Pune. 5. M/s.Century Inka Ltd., Bhosari, Dist: Pune. 6. M/s.Ballarpur Industries Ltd., Pune. 7. M/s.Emcare Pharmaceuticals Ltd., Hinjwadi, Pune. 8. M/s.Lubrizol India Pvt. Ltd., Navi Mumbai Maharashtra Pollution Control Board had contributed Rs.1 Lakh for co-sponsoring the conference and also sponsored four resource personnels from Maharashtra for addressing in the conference. Dr.D.B. Boralkar, Member Secretary, Shri D. T. Devale & Shri A.B. Jain, Sr.Law Officers of the MPCB had taken active role in the said conference. Shri D. T. Devale, Sr.Law Officer contributed an Article on ‘Public Participation in Environmental Management : Issues & Concerns’ in the Souvenir. Dr.D.B. Boralkar, Member Secretary, Maharashtra Pollution Control Board addressed in the session on the topic “Enforcement Tools in Urban / Municipal Waste & Bio & Hazardous Waste Management”. Dr.Irach Barucha, Director, Bharti Vidyapith of Environment Education from Pune talked on the subject “Public Awareness & NGO’s Role in Enforcement – Role of Public & Citizens in Creating Awareness”. Mrs.Jyoti Mhapsekar, President, Stree Mukti Sanghata enlightened NGO’s Role in Enforcement & Public Awareness at conference. Dr.Claude Alvares, President, Goa Foundation also highlighted the NGO’s Role in the Enforcement. Shri V.N.Mundhe, Regional Officer, MPCB,Pune, Shri S.K. More, Regional Officer, MPCB, Raigad and Shri D.M. Chaukhande, Regional Officer, MPCB, Navi Mumbai have also taken special efforts to invite the participation of the industries from the Maharashtra to support the conference. The said conference was indeed a successful attempt for creating environmental awareness for effective enforcement. Asia Pacific Jurist Association communicated its special thanks to the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board and the participants not only as a partner in organizing the conference but making it successful. The New Delhi Declaration made at the end of the conference highlighted the commitment of APJA and the delegates.
